Finish work is judged from two feet away. Miters that stay closed, reveals that stay consistent down a whole hallway, doors that latch without being pushed. It is slow work and it is supposed to be.

New construction and existing homes
In a new house the walls are ours, so the trim goes on easily. In a hundred-year-old home nothing is square and the work is really about making imperfect walls look straight. Both are worth doing well; the second just takes longer, and we will say so in the estimate rather than discovering it later.

Common questions
Do you supply the trim and materials, or do we?
Either way. Most clients have us supply it, and we will give you a material list with the estimate so you can see what is going in. If you have already bought your millwork we will install it.
Can you match the trim in an older home?
Usually. A lot of profiles from the early 1900s are still available or can be milled to match a sample. Bring us a short offcut of the original and we will tell you whether it can be matched or whether the closest stock profile is the better call.
Do you install cabinets?
Yes, we install cabinetry and build simple built-ins. We do not manufacture custom cabinets, so for a fully bespoke kitchen you would use a cabinet shop and we would hang the finished boxes.
Why does finish work in an old house cost more?
Because nothing is square or plumb, and the job becomes making imperfect walls look straight. That is slow, skilled work. We will say so in the estimate rather than discovering it halfway through.
